From Devon to East London

 

In 2000 I began researching my father’s family history and produced a file on my findings in March 2001.  During the years since, more information has come to light and I have also collaborated with Thomas Peeke - who is descended from the same Devon family - in further research and organising Speare family gatherings.  A summary of my family line is below.  The website www.speare.org.uk covers the wider Speare family.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Generation 1

Richard Speare & Mary Carpenter: married 11th August 1772, Inwardleigh, Devon

Generation 2

Richard’s son, Richard: baptised 12th January 1778, Inwardleigh

Richard married Mary Ward: 21st December 1801, Inwardleigh  

Generation 3

Richard’s son, Samuel: baptised July 1813. Inwardleigh

Samuel married Christian Parker: 1st January 1834, Mary Tavy

Generation 4

Samuel’s son, William: born 16th March 1841 near Hatherleigh, Devon

William married Sarah Ann Prouse: 1862, Bovey Tracey, Devon (Sarah Ann died in 1871)

William married Anna Maria Thomas: 1873, Ashburton, Devon

 

 

Generation 7

Reginald’s younger son, Paul: born 1955, Romford

Paul married Paula Ann Davies: 1985, Finham, Coventry

Generation 8

Paul’s daughter, Yolanda: born 1993, Nuneaton, Warwickshire

Edgar’s youngest son, Reginald: born 1916, Hackney (died 2006, Hornchurch)

Reginald married Julia Ann Gibson: 1938, Bow, London (Julia died 2006, Oxford)

Moved to Dagenham, Essex around 1948; retired to Hampshire 1980;

returned to Rainham, Essex 1994

Generation 5

William’s son, Edgar Augustus Thomas: born 26th April 1875, Ashburton

Family moved to Bethnal Green, East London, around 1879

Edgar married Mary Ann Hatton: 1902
